Here is a picture of our friend Ian taken by Alex! Caleb, Tara, Lisa and I had a picnic at Lighthouse park today. It was a fun stroll.

The funniest aspect of the whole evening was that we met a lot of Spanish speakers today at the park. We never run into so many at one time in Vancouver, but today all the Spanish speakers were hanging out at Lighthouse park!

Lisa and I just found out we will be disconnected from the world indefinately. We returned to Canada to find that Telus workers are on strike. We use Sprint’s home service, but sadly they use telus workers to install a new line. So that means we will not have a phone line until this is resolved and no one can “tell us” when we will be connected. I hope that this stike will not last as long as the hockey strike or we are in trouble.

This is a song writen by a Venezuelan songwriter dedicated to El Salvador.
Beto from Emmanuel taught us the song. It is a fun song to sing.

Intro: Am

A)
E Am
Dm Am E Am A

A
A

Coro:
E A
/Y dale salvadoreño, dale
E A
que no hay pajaro pequeño, dale
E A
que despues de alzar el vuelo, dale
E A
se detenga en su volar./

B)

Coro

Lisa and can’t believe we are home now!
It was difficult to leave El Salvador. We did not get to see all the family we wanted to see, however the short time we were able to see certain family members was a joy. One of my favorite things was to help one of my cousins move to her new home with her family. It is hard to be part of the family’s day-to-day activities when we are so far away. So helping them move made me feel like I was part of the family. It is something that might not make sense unless you live away from family.

Lisa and I loved the work that Emmanuel Baptist Church is doing in El Salvador. They are a small church, but they are making a significant impact in El Salvador and the world. Our mission team visited one of their missionaries in Cerro Campanas. They had so much going on in this little mission. There is a family with ten kids living in the community. They are doing agricultural development like raising goats and chickens to help the local farming families to improve their nutrution and something called lombricultura where they create fertalizer using worms. They also are teaching the farmer how to make organic pesticieds. However this family does not live like the traditional missionaries that I have seen that live in first world conditions. They are Salvadoran missionaries and live just like the farming families. I will write more about this family later.

There is so much to think about, but it is hard to put into words right now. The one thing that I left with is that the Church is in need to return to a biblical view of justice. We in the evangelical church have emphasized the Gospel of the life to come in heaven, but have left out the impact of the Gospel in the everyday life of the people that believe the Gospel. In other words, we have ignored the Kingdom of God and the demands that puts in our everyday life. In Emmanuel, I found a church that trully lives that and preaches it, WOW! It was truly a great experience to meet this church body.

We have been busy trying to get a hold of family before we join the mission. Tomorrow we meet up with the mission team from Kits Church. We have been to the beach a few times with different family memebers. That has been the main activity when family takes us out. The water has been warm and refreshing.

It has been fun for me to introduce new fruits to Lisa. There are some fruits I don´t even know what they are called in English. Sometimes I can´t see the difference in the fruits on the outside and then when you open them they are so different. I think I taste a new fruit each time I come to El Salvador. It is so amazing.

We helped my cousin move last weekend. It was a lot of fun to be here for that. I miss being involved in the day-to-day activities of my family since I see them so few times in life. It was great to be part of an ordinary activity.

I pray we can return soon and also get to see Lisa´s family in Syria.
More to news from El Salvador coming soon!
